There are two main sections for this part of the curriculum:
I. Jewish History: From the First Temple Period through the Period of the Amora'im (Rabbis of the Talmud)
Each student will conduct an in-depth study of one personality/character from the this time period of Jewish history. The character will be from among the Kings, Prophets, or Rabbis. Details of this project will be distributed by Morah Lily.
II. Mishna Tractate Pirkei Avot, Chapter 1: The wisdom literature of the Rabbis in the Mishna.
Students will become familiar with the history and personalities from the historical periods around the Rabbis and the class will delve into an in-depth study and discussion of the ethical teachings of the Rabbis from the Mishna period found in Pirkei Avot.
The text we will be using is a packet that I created for the study of Pirkei Avot in the upper grades at VTT. You will receive a copy of the packet in class, but in case you forget a page at school or home or lose one, you will be able to link to the packet here on this page and print out any page that you need.
